Mother dies after learning of sons suspected murder in Gazipur

A 55-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was found dead in Kapasia, Gazipur, on Thursday night, triggering a fatal medical emergency for his mother upon learning of the tragedy.

The deceased driver, Ataur Rahman, was discovered by passersby around 7:30 p.m. in a desolate area near Mirzanagar Girls’ High School in the Sonmania Union. Police from the Aral Bazar investigation center recovered the body after receiving a call via the 999 emergency hotline.

Rahman’s family identified his remains approximately one hour later. Upon receiving the news, his 75-year-old mother, Johura Khatun, collapsed and died before she could be transported to a hospital. Relatives noted that Johura Khatun, the wife of Abdul Kadir from Narottampur village in the Barishab Union, had been suffering from chronic health issues.

Family members suspect that Rahman was murdered during a robbery targeting his auto-rickshaw. Rahman served as the primary breadwinner for his family, leaving behind two sons and a daughter.

Inspector Shafiqul Islam, in-charge of the Aral Police investigation center, confirmed that the body has been sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur for an autopsy. Authorities have initiated a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
