Tarique Rahman to Expand Cabinet with Four New Appointments as Mirza Fakhrul Set for Presidential Oath

Four new members are set to join the cabinet led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, as the government prepares for a swearing-in ceremony at Bangabhaban on Friday evening. The expansion coincides with Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s scheduled oath-taking as the new President of the country.

Official sources confirmed that Abdul Moyeen Khan, Andaleeve Rahman Partho, and Saching Prue Jerry are expected to be sworn in as ministers. Additionally, Mohammad Shamim Kaiser Lincoln has been tipped to join the administration as a state minister. The Cabinet Division has reportedly contacted the appointees, instructing them to be present at the presidential palace by 7:30 p.m.

Saching Prue Jerry, the member of parliament for Bandarban and convener of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Bandarban district unit, confirmed receiving the summons. “I have received a call and have been asked to be at Bangabhaban around 7:30 p.m.,” he stated.

The prospective ministers include Abdul Moyeen Khan, a standing committee member of the BNP and parliamentarian for the Narsingdi-2 constituency. Andaleeve Rahman Partho, chairman of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), is also joining the cabinet. Partho, who secured his parliamentary seat from the Bhola-1 constituency, participated in the recent elections as part of an alliance with the BNP. Mohammad Shamim Kaiser Lincoln, the parliamentarian for the Gaibandha-4 (Gobindaganj) constituency, is slated to join as a state minister.

When the government was formed under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in February, the cabinet comprised 50 members, including the Prime Minister, 25 ministers, and 24 state ministers. Beyond the official cabinet, the administration also maintains 10 advisers—five holding the rank of minister and five holding the rank of state minister—who do not serve as formal members of the cabinet.

With the addition of the three new ministers and one state minister, the total size of the cabinet will increase to 54. Following the ceremony, the government structure will consist of the Prime Minister, 28 ministers, and 25 state ministers.
