Superstar Rajinikanth Celebrates Fifty-One Years in Indian Cinema

South Indian cinema superstar Rajinikanth marked a major career milestone on August 15, 2026, celebrating 51 years in the film industry. The veteran actor, affectionately known as “Thalaiva” by his legions of fans, commemorated the occasion on the set of his latest project, “Dharman,” alongside director Ashwath Marimuthu and the production crew.
Rajinikanth’s cinematic journey began on August 15, 1975, with his debut in the film “Apoorva Raagangal,” which starred Kamal Haasan. While he initially gained prominence playing supporting and antagonistic roles, he steadily transitioned into a leading man, eventually becoming one of the most influential figures in Indian cinema. Over five decades, he has worked across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and English-language films, leaving an indelible mark through his unique screen presence, iconic dialogue delivery, and distinctive style.
Currently, Rajinikanth is filming “Dharman,” which serves as his 173rd feature film. Produced by Kamal Haasan and R. Mahendran under the banners of Raaj Kamal Films International and Turmeric Media, the project features an ensemble cast including Simran Bagga, Raashii Khanna, and Yogi Babu, with director Ashwath Marimuthu also appearing on screen. The film’s technical crew includes music composer Anirudh Ravichander, cinematographer Niketh Bommireddy, and editor Pradeep E. Raghav, with stunt sequences choreographed by the Anbariv duo. The production recently entered its second phase of filming.
Following the completion of “Dharman,” Rajinikanth is set to star in “Jailer 2,” directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The upcoming action sequel is expected to feature a prominent cast including Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, S.J. Suryah, and Suraj Venjaramoodu. Reports also suggest that Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar may reprise their cameo roles from the original film, with rumors circulating about a potential special appearance by Hrithik Roshan.
“Jailer 2” is currently slated for a theatrical release on October 15, 2026.
