Police maintain high security at Dhanmondi 32 as one detained near Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman residence

Security forces have enforced a strict lockdown around the Dhanmondi 32 area in Dhaka on Saturday, marking the anniversary of the August 15 assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Law enforcement officials have cordoned off the vicinity of the former residence, which was heavily damaged during recent civil unrest, as authorities maintain a high-alert stance to prevent any potential disruptions.
Police have installed barricades on both sides of the road leading to the residence, effectively halting both vehicular and pedestrian movement in the immediate vicinity. A heavy deployment of law enforcement officers remains on-site, supported by armored personnel carriers positioned as a precautionary measure. Numerous journalists have gathered near the perimeter, alongside clusters of curious onlookers.
Authorities confirmed that one individual, identified as Arnab Das, was taken into custody at approximately 10:15 a.m. after attempting to place floral tributes at the damaged residence. Police officials stated that the detainee, who hails from Tangail, is suspected of being an active member of the Jubo League, an organization currently facing significant political scrutiny. He was subsequently transported to the Dhanmondi Police Station for further interrogation.
Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Muhammad Imdadul Islam stated that security measures were intensified starting Friday night in anticipation of the August 15 commemorations. He emphasized that police remain prepared to address any security challenges or untoward incidents that may arise in the area throughout the day.
