Three Arrested After Woman Assaulted and Scalp Shorn in Debiganj Home Project Incident

A 39-year-old woman was hospitalized after being physically assaulted and having her hair forcibly cut in Debiganj, Panchagarh. Following the incident, the victim filed a formal complaint with the Debiganj Police Station on Wednesday night, naming six individuals as suspects and identifying seven others as unidentified perpetrators.
Local police have arrested three suspects in connection with the attack: Abdul Haque, 50, Sujan Islam, 19, and Chan Mia, 32. The three men were produced before a court on Thursday afternoon, where a judge ordered them to be remanded to judicial custody.
The assault occurred on Monday night at an Ashrayan project site within the Debiganj Upazila. The victim is currently receiving medical treatment at the Debiganj Upazila Health Complex.
According to police records and the victim’s statement, the incident was sparked by the victim’s recent marriage. The woman had converted to Islam on June 12 and subsequently remarried after divorcing her previous husband. On Monday night, the first wife of her current husband, accompanied by her children and relatives, confronted the victim.
During the confrontation, the group allegedly attacked the woman with bamboo sticks and iron rods. The perpetrators reportedly seized the victim’s marriage documents and mobile phone before using a razor and scissors to cut off a portion of her hair.
The victim’s husband stated that the attackers demanded to see their marriage documentation. He admitted that he had not obtained his first wife’s permission before entering into the second marriage.
Officer-in-Charge of Debiganj Police Station, Musa Mia, confirmed that a case has been registered and the three arrests have been made. Law enforcement officials stated that efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing.
