Dhaka Metro Rail to Add Extra Trains to Reduce Evening Wait Times

The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) will introduce two additional metro rail trains by the end of this month to alleviate evening congestion and enhance passenger service. The expansion is expected to reduce the headway between the final two trains of the day from 20 minutes to approximately seven to eight minutes.

DMTCL officials stated that there is an ongoing initiative to extend metro rail operations by 20 to 30 minutes starting in September, which would push the final departure time to 11:00 p.m. Preparations for this extended schedule are currently in the final stages, with the recruitment and training of additional train operators nearing completion.

The metro rail system currently serves approximately 450,000 passengers on a daily basis. The addition of the new trains is intended to streamline transit during peak evening hours, addressing the increasing demand for commuter rail services in the capital.
