Humayun Ahmed-founded Shahid Smriti Bidyapith maintains perfect SSC pass rate in Netrokona

Shahid Smriti Bidyapith, the educational institution established by the late renowned novelist Humayun Ahmed in Kendua Upazila of Netrokona, has maintained its record of achieving a 100 percent pass rate in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations. All 36 candidates who appeared for the exams this year successfully passed, although no student from the school secured a GPA-5.

A total of 20 students from the science department and 16 from the humanities department participated in the examinations. This performance continues the school’s historical trend of success, as it has consistently achieved a 100 percent pass rate in previous years. In the preceding year, all 56 candidates passed, with four students achieving a GPA-5.

Founded by Humayun Ahmed on a three-acre plot of land in Kutubpur, the school began formal operations in 2006. Initially gaining attention for its unique architectural design, the institution was envisioned by the novelist as a center of excellence that would eventually attract students from urban areas. Currently, the school serves students from over 50 surrounding villages, with approximately 100 female students commuting to campus daily by bicycle.

The school currently accommodates 323 students from grades six to ten, supported by a faculty and staff of 21 members. Headmaster Asaduzzaman noted that the school has maintained a perfect pass record in SSC examinations since its students first participated in 2010. Regarding the absence of GPA-5 recipients this year, Asaduzzaman expressed no disappointment, emphasizing that the school’s core philosophy, aligned with the vision of its founder, prioritizes the development of moral character, patriotism, and human values over mere numerical grades.

Local residents and parents have expressed significant pride in the institution. Bachchu Mia, a parent of a student, praised the commitment of the teaching staff, noting that educators frequently monitor students’ progress at their homes in addition to providing classroom instruction.

In the broader context of the region, Netrokona district recorded a pass rate of 60.49 percent, marking the highest performance within the Mymensingh division. District Commissioner Khandakar Mushfiqur Rahman stated that authorities are planning further initiatives to improve academic results across the district.
