Prothom Alo and Nagad award winners of Football World Cup quiz in Dhaka

Prothom Alo, in collaboration with the digital financial service provider Nagad, awarded three mega winners of the Nagad Football Quiz held during the recent FIFA World Cup. The prize-giving ceremony took place on Sunday at the Prothom Alo office in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka.

Nazim Uddin from Chuadanga secured the grand prize of 100,000 taka, while Majeda Akter from Tangail was named the first runner-up, receiving 30,000 taka. Abu Sayed Badal from Mymensingh took the second runner-up position, winning 20,000 taka. The winners were selected through a random draw held in their presence.

The prizes were handed over by Motasim Billah, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank and administrator of Nagad, alongside Mohammad Zahidul Islam, Head of Media and Communications at Nagad. Representing Prothom Alo were Head of Online Shawkat Hossain, Chief Sports Editor Utpal Shuvro, and Chief Digital Business Officer ABM Javed Sultan.

Addressing the audience, Motasim Billah highlighted that the initiative aimed to share the excitement and fervor of the World Cup with the public, offering a respite from the monotony of daily life. Mohammad Zahidul Islam expressed his satisfaction in partnering with a prominent media outlet like Prothom Alo, noting that the initiative brought back personal memories of participating in similar academic quizzes.

Shawkat Hossain noted the intrinsic link between the World Cup and its economic impact, emphasizing the collective joy the event brings to viewers. Chief Sports Editor Utpal Shuvro attributed the success and popularity of Prothom Alo’s long-standing quiz tradition to the organization’s commitment to transparency.

ABM Javed Sultan shared that the campaign, hosted on the website nagadwcquiz.com, exceeded expectations by nearly tenfold. He stated that the high level of engagement serves as a testament to the deep-rooted public trust in Prothom Alo’s digital platforms. The campaign drew approximately 50,000 participants, who were permitted to enter the quiz up to three times daily.

During the tournament, four daily winners were selected via lottery from those who submitted correct answers, each receiving 500 taka credited to their Nagad accounts. The three mega winners were then chosen from the pool of successful participants at the conclusion of the tournament.

Reflecting on his win, grand prize recipient Nazim Uddin expressed surprise and excitement, stating he often participated in the quiz during work breaks but never anticipated emerging as the champion.

The event was moderated by Khairul Babui, Assistant General Manager of Digital Content at Prothom Alo. Several other officials from both Nagad and Prothom Alo were in attendance, including Lincoln Md. Lutfuzzaman Sarkar, Md. Sabbir Ahmed, Rushnan Ibne Rafiq, Ruhul Amin Rony, Mehbub Javed, and Nusrat Jahan.
