Chhayanaut hosts Rabindra Sangeet evening celebrating monsoon in Dhaka

DHAKA – Artists celebrated the waning days of the monsoon season on Saturday with a vibrant cultural showcase at the Chhayanaut Sangskriti Bhaban auditorium in Dhanmondi. The event, titled “Barshamukhar Srabon Sandhya,” featured a blend of music, dance, and poetry dedicated to the works of Rabindranath Tagore.
Organized by Bhorer Alo, a musical troupe founded by the late Rabindra Sangeet exponent and teacher Sadi Mohammad, the performance highlighted the seasonal transformation of the Bengali landscape. The production was supported by various cultural groups, including Gane Gane Adda, Uttarayan, and the dance organization Nrityanchal.
The evening featured a seamless flow of performances celebrating the monsoon, a season historically cherished by poets for its ability to rejuvenate the arid earth. The program commenced with a chorus performance of “Ahoban Ashilo Mohotshob,” followed by group dances set to “Aj Taler Boner Korotali.”
Soloists Farzana Aparajita, Anupam Kumar Pal, Jesmin Rose, Moumita Pal, and Sourav Sikdar delivered a series of compositions including “Chokke Amar Trishna,” “Gogone Gogone Apon Mone,” “Chitto Amar Haralo,” and “Shaon Gogone.” The musical segments were interspersed with poetry recitations by Ananya Saha and Hafizur Rahman.
The event concluded with the chorus performance of “Moru Bijoyer Keton Urao Shunye.” The production was conceptualized and directed by Lily Islam, with choreography provided by Shibli Mohammad and Snata Shahreen. The performance served as a tribute to the enduring influence of Rabindranath Tagore, who famously revitalized the cultural celebration of the monsoon through his extensive literary and musical canon.
