Liberation War Ministry Apologizes for July Uprising Documentary Controversy

The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has issued a formal apology following a disruptive protest during a government-organized event held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center on August 5. The ceremony, intended to honor the families of martyrs and those injured during the July uprising, was marred by disturbances when audience members protested a documentary screening, alleging inaccuracies in its depiction of the movement.
In a press release issued Thursday, the ministry acknowledged the incident, which prompted representatives from the National Citizens Party and several foreign diplomats to exit the venue prematurely. While the ministry affirmed that every citizen possesses the right to raise grievances, it condemned the manner of the protest, stating that the public outburst in the presence of international dignitaries and media representatives damaged the nation’s image.
The ministry suggested that the disruption may have been politically motivated, designed to sabotage a state event. Officials expressed particular concern over the emotional toll the chaos inflicted upon the families of the martyrs and the injured activists in attendance, noting that these individuals subsequently voiced their distress regarding the environment created at the ceremony.
Addressing the aftermath of the event, the ministry dismissed ongoing reports circulating on social media and in various publications that attempt to implicate the Prime Minister in the controversy. Officials labeled these narratives as malicious misinformation, warning that such campaigns are disrespectful to the state and pose a threat to democratic stability. The ministry cautioned that spreading disinformation to destabilize the country risks leading the nation back toward the influence of fascism and urged the public to remain vigilant against anti-democratic activities.
Looking forward, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs committed to a thorough review of the documentary. Officials stated that the film will be amended to ensure the historical record of the July uprising is accurate, inclusive, and factually grounded before it is released again.
