Police Investigate Multiple Brazen Heists Targeting Businessman and Expatriate in Narayanganj

Police in Narayanganj’s Bandar area have launched a manhunt following two brazen robberies that occurred within 48 hours, fueling concerns over local security. Authorities have yet to make any arrests in connection with the incidents, which involved the impersonation of law enforcement and the use of armed intimidation.
The first incident, reported Friday evening by businessman Altaf Hossain, involved the theft of 1.8 million taka. According to the police complaint, Hossain had withdrawn 1.65 million taka from a Dutch-Bangla Bank branch in Madanpur on Thursday to conduct business transactions. While traveling home, he was intercepted near the Dhakeshwari graveyard by three to four individuals wearing jackets resembling those used by the Detective Branch (DB) of the police.
The assailants claimed Hossain was wanted in a criminal case, forced him into a microbus, and proceeded to blindfold and restrain him. After subjecting him to physical assault, the perpetrators stole his cash, identification card, and smartphone. Hossain was held for approximately 45 minutes before being abandoned under the Langalband bridge in the Sonargaon area.
In a separate incident, a Saudi Arabia-bound migrant worker, Rakibul Hasan, was targeted in the early hours of Thursday. Hasan was waiting for a pre-booked vehicle near a local mosque in West Hajipur when three men on a motorcycle approached him. Armed with a firearm and other weapons, the attackers assaulted Hasan and his relatives before seizing his passport, flight tickets, cash, and personal belongings, including mobile phones.
Bandar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jamal Uddin confirmed that formal cases have been registered regarding both incidents. Law enforcement is currently conducting investigations to identify the suspects and recover the stolen property, while legal proceedings against the perpetrators remain ongoing.
