Chittagong police arrest notorious gang leader David Emon in Jessore operation

Chittagong district police apprehended top-tier criminal Mobarak Hossain, widely known as “David Emon,” during a targeted operation in Jessore on Wednesday morning. The arrest, confirmed by Chittagong District Superintendent of Police Masud Alam, resulted in the capture of Emon alongside five of his associates, all of whom are identified by authorities as professional gunmen.

Emon, a resident of the Kanchannagar area in Fatikchhari, has long been a primary operative for Sajjad Ali, a notorious underworld figure currently evading justice from abroad. According to police records, Emon is implicated in at least 15 criminal cases, including the high-profile double murder in the Bakalia area in March 2025 and the assassination of a local criminal known as “Dhakaiya Akbar” at Patenga sea beach just two months later.

Law enforcement officials describe Emon as a highly skilled marksman with a documented history of handling a significant arsenal. Investigators allege that he played a pivotal role in the Bakalia double homicide by coordinating the hiring of gunmen and logistics for the operation. Following the incarceration of Sajjad’s former lieutenant, “Chhota Sajjad,” Emon and his associate Mohammad Rayhan assumed command of the criminal syndicate’s domestic operations. Rayhan, who faces eight separate charges ranging from extortion to homicide, remains a key figure in the organization.
