Truck collision leaves one dead, three injured on Bogra-Dhaka highway

A fatal traffic collision on the Dhaka-Bogra highway in Bogra’s Sherpur upazila claimed the life of a 45-year-old man on Saturday afternoon, leaving three others injured. The incident occurred in the Ghoga Bottola area when a battery-operated van, which was transporting a patient, collided with a truck involved in a highway expansion project.

The deceased, Joynal Abedin, was a resident of Gorta village under Bhabanipur union. He was accompanying his ailing uncle, 55-year-old Md. Bakht Jamal, who had been returning home after receiving medical treatment in Sirajganj. The impact of the collision resulted in Joynal’s death at the scene.

Eyewitnesses reported that the truck was traveling in the wrong direction along the four-lane highway project route when it struck the oncoming van head-on. The crash left three people injured, including the patient, Bakht Jamal, his wife, 40-year-old Kulsum Begum, and the van driver, 45-year-old Md. Shah Alam.

Local residents rushed the injured to the Sherpur Upazila Health Complex for initial treatment. Due to the severity of his condition, Shah Alam was subsequently transferred to the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra for advanced medical care.

Inspector Ayub Ali of the Sherpur Highway Police confirmed that authorities have seized the truck involved in the incident. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is currently underway.
