What is Bangladesh’s ‘Long Diplomatic Journey’ with India?

New aspects of the relationship between the two countries are clearly coming to the fore with the recent visit of Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman to Delhi. After the new government took over, this visit is being viewed with special importance by the diplomatic circles.

According to the scheduled schedule, April 9 (Thursday) morning Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and S. Jaishankar together left for Mauritius from Delhi.

There they will participate in the Indian Ocean Conference. The diplomatic circles consider this joint visit very significant.

According to analysts, this ‘long diplomatic journey’ is not just a participation in an international conference, but is creating an opportunity to further the current discussion and mutual understanding. 

They also said that the message of trust, cooperation and regular dialogue between Dhaka and Delhi will play an important role in strengthening the relationship between the two countries in the future.

On reaching Delhi last Tuesday, the Foreign Minister held a meeting with India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in the evening.

There the issues of regional security, border situation and mutual cooperation come up. The next day, April 8 (Wednesday), India’s Foreign Minister S. at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. An important meeting was held with Jaishankar.

Bilateral relations, trade, energy, connectivity and people-to-people contacts were widely discussed in the meeting. Apart from this, the meeting with India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri was also discussed at the diplomatic level.
