HSC Examinees Protest in Chittagong Demanding Nationwide Exam Suspension and Accountability

HSC examinees staged a protest in front of the Chittagong Education Board on Tuesday, demanding the immediate suspension of examinations across all boards, the punishment of officials responsible for errors in question papers, and the replacement of registration cards and admit cards destroyed by recent flooding. The demonstration, which began at 11:00 a.m. at the board’s main gate in Muradpur, brought traffic to a standstill on a major lane of the CDA Avenue, stretching from the city’s 2nd Gate to Bahaddarhat.
Students involved in the protest argued that the current examination schedule is untenable given the severe flooding affecting multiple regions of the country. They asserted that many candidates have been unable to reach testing centers due to the disaster and contended that previous appeals to reschedule the exams were ignored by authorities. Protesters cautioned that if their demands for a nationwide examination stay are not met, they will escalate their movement to include a call for the resignation of the Education Minister.
Addressing the media, student representative Md. Omayer emphasized the necessity of addressing the logistical hurdles faced by flood victims, specifically the loss of vital examination documents. He reiterated that the students are seeking accountability for the recurring errors in question papers, which they believe necessitate systemic changes in oversight.
By midday, approximately 200 students had gathered at the site, chanting slogans against the board’s management. In response to the unrest, Chittagong Education Board Secretary Mohammad Zahirul Haque met with a delegation of students around 12:30 p.m. He stated that the issue of errors in question papers would be handled by an inter-board committee, while also assuring that students who lost their documents in the floods would be issued replacements immediately upon visiting the board office.
Local law enforcement, led by Panchlaish Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Jahedul Islam, remained on-site to monitor the situation as the demonstration continued into the early afternoon. Traffic flow in the immediate vicinity remained disrupted as of 1:15 p.m.
