Three Barishal Police Constables Suspended Over Embezzlement of Public Funds

Three police constables attached to the Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) have been suspended following allegations of embezzling over 1.8 million taka from government funds through the submission of fraudulent bills.
The accused, identified as constables Maruf Hasan, Joydeb Kumar Majumdar, and Sajib Mia, were reportedly involved in the misappropriation of 1,860,984 taka while working in the department’s accounting section. According to initial investigations, the suspects utilized the computer credentials of a fellow official to bypass security protocols and generate the illicit billing documents.

The matter came to light after discrepancies were flagged during an internal review, prompting the force to initiate a departmental inquiry. The preliminary findings corroborated the allegations of financial misconduct, confirming that the trio had violated service discipline to facilitate the unauthorized withdrawals.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Abdul Hannan confirmed the disciplinary action on Wednesday, noting that a formal order for their suspension was issued on Monday. The three constables have since been withdrawn from their duties and attached to the Barisal Police Lines pending the outcome of a comprehensive investigation.

Authorities are currently scrutinizing the mechanics of the embezzlement, including the methods used to siphon the funds and whether other personnel were complicit in the operation. Officials stated that upon completion of the final investigation report, the department will pursue further administrative and legal action against those found responsible.
