Measles outbreak claims three more child lives as total fatalities approach 700

Three children have died from measles-related symptoms in the last 24 hours, according to the latest data released Tuesday by the Directorate General of Health Services. The fatalities, recorded between Monday and Tuesday morning, occurred in the Dhaka, Sylhet, and Mymensingh divisions, with each region reporting one death.

These recent losses bring the total number of deaths associated with the outbreak to 686 since March 15. This figure comprises 593 children who succumbed to symptoms consistent with measles and 93 cases that have been laboratory-confirmed.

Public health data indicates that the viral spread remains significant, with 1,009 new cases presenting with measles-like symptoms reported nationwide in the past day. Since the onset of the current outbreak mid-March, authorities have recorded 94,764 symptomatic cases. Of those, 11,297 individuals have received a clinical confirmation of the disease, including 126 new diagnoses identified within the last 24 hours.

Healthcare facilities continue to manage a high volume of patients, with 78,716 individuals having been hospitalized for symptoms since March 15. The health directorate reports that the recovery rate remains stable, as 74,971 patients have been discharged following successful treatment.
