Three Killed, Teenager Critically Injured as Bus Hits Rickshaw Van in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ, Bangladesh — Three people were killed and a teenage girl was critically injured after a passenger bus struck a battery-operated rickshaw van in Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj on Friday morning.
The accident occurred at around 7:00 a.m. near the Meghulla bus stand, police said.
According to witnesses and law enforcement officials, the accident began when the axle of the battery-operated rickshaw van suddenly broke, causing the vehicle to collapse and throwing its passengers onto the road.
A Dhaka-bound Dhaka Express bus traveling from Enayetpur attempted to avoid the victims but lost control and struck them.
The deceased were identified as the van driver, Nurul Islam, 35, and passengers Motaleb Hossain, 45, and his wife Fazila Khatun, 35.
Nurul Islam and Fazila Khatun died at the scene, while Motaleb Hossain succumbed to his injuries on the way to a hospital.
The couple’s 16-year-old daughter, Tamanna Khatun, survived the crash but sustained critical injuries. She is currently undergoing treatment at the local upazila health complex.
Belkuchi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abu Jafar Imam confirmed the incident and said police recovered the bodies from the scene.
The bus eventually came to a stop after crashing into a roadside tree.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
