Police detain seven following disturbances at Tofael Ahmed funeral in Dhaka

Police detained seven individuals in Dhaka on Monday following a disturbance that erupted after the funeral prayer for veteran politician Tofail Ahmed. The incident occurred at the Taqwa Mosque in the capital’s Dhanmondi area shortly after the Maghrib prayer, when a group began chanting slogans, leading to a confrontation.
According to N.M. Nasiruddin, Deputy Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, the individuals were taken into custody after they attempted to stage a procession that disrupted the post-funeral proceedings.
Tofail Ahmed, a prominent organizer of the 1969 mass uprising and the Liberation War, passed away earlier in the day at the age of 82. He had been receiving treatment at Square Hospital since September 24, where he was admitted with pneumonia-related respiratory distress, cardiac complications, and general physical frailty.
Family members and close associates stated that the veteran leader had been struggling with various age-related health issues for a prolonged period. He is survived by his daughter and a wide circle of admirers.
