Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, deputy leader of the opposition in the National Parliament and naib amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, has issued a stern warning against the proliferation of drug trafficking and juvenile gangs, vowing to lead a rigorous crackdown on criminal elements in Chauddagram. During an Eid reunion and public reception held Sunday at the Chauddagram Central Eidgah ground, Taher granted these criminal groups a six-month ultimatum to abandon their illicit activities and reintegrate into society. He asserted that no leniency would be shown, calling for a unified community effort to eradicate crime.

Addressing the local political landscape and infrastructure development, Taher refuted claims regarding the origin of regional improvements. He highlighted that he secured 120 million taka in funding for infrastructure during the interim government’s tenure and an additional 100 million taka within three months of the general election, underscoring his direct role in local development.

In a broader critique of the nation’s security climate, Taher expressed concern over the rising incidents of violence against children and cases of sexual assault. He attributed the decline in law and order to the involvement of individuals aligned with the government, arguing that these political affiliations often paralyze law enforcement agencies from taking necessary, decisive action.

Turning his focus to the performance of the incumbent government, Taher voiced disappointment with the administration’s progress on critical reforms. He noted that the public mandate for the government was rooted in the expectations of constitutional reform, parliamentary development, and the creation of a nation free from corruption and terrorism.

While stopping short of labeling the administration an outright failure, Taher warned that the prevailing lack of effective action is generating widespread public frustration. He urged the head of government to immediately identify systemic obstacles and implement tangible solutions to steer the country toward progress. The event, hosted by the Chauddagram Upazila branch of Jamaat-e-Islami, also featured addresses from senior party leaders, including Assistant Secretary General Abdul Halim and former student wing president Zahidur Rahman.
