Ekram Murder: Family Awaits Justice

A criminal court is investigating allegations surrounding the 2018 death of Ekramul Haque, a local political official in Teknaf, Bangladesh, whose final moments were captured on a widely circulated audio recording. Haque, then the president of the Teknaf Upazila Jubo League and a ward councilor, was killed in what authorities described as a gunfight on May 26, 2018.
The audio recording, purportedly capturing Haque’s last conversation and the sounds of gunfire, sparked national debate and raised questions about the official accounts of extrajudicial killings during a nationwide anti-drug crackdown. Seven years later, Haque’s wife filed a case at the International Crimes Tribunal, which is currently under investigation. The family is demanding justice for those allegedly involved in his death.
