Salman F Rahman Quips Hell Die of Heat in Bulletproof Gear

Salman F Rahman, a former advisor to Bangladesh’s ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, expressed visible annoyance on Wednesday as he was fitted with a bulletproof vest, helmet, and handcuffs before being escorted from a prison van to a Dhaka court. “I’ll die of heat wearing all this in this weather,” Rahman was heard saying, his discomfort highlighting the tense atmosphere surrounding the high-profile appearances.

Rahman, who previously served as Hasina’s advisor on private industry and investment, was brought to the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s court for a hearing. He arrived in the same prison van as former Law Minister Anisul Huq and former Member of Parliament for Dhaka-13, Sadeq Khan. The van arrived at the court premises around 9:30 a.m.

Following Rahman’s disembarkation, Huq and Khan were also brought out of the vehicle. The police officers on duty meticulously secured Rahman, who reiterated his discomfort with the prevailing heat.

Later, another prison van arrived at the court compound carrying former State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak. Palak, who was wearing a bulletproof vest but no helmet, disembarked with the assistance of police officers, his neck supported by a cervical collar. “I’m coming from the hospital… the pain is still there,” Palak stated after being helped from the van, before being taken to the court’s holding area.

Court sources indicated that Salman F Rahman, Anisul Huq, and Sadeq Khan were presented before the court in connection with two separate money laundering cases. Junaid Ahmed Palak’s appearance was related to a case accusing him of shooting and killing Mo. Hossain, a driver of a freight truck, in the Mohammadpur area during the July popular uprising.
