The writ seeking suspension of the proceedings of the BCB ad hoc committee decision was dismissed outright

The High Court has directly rejected the writ seeking suspension of the proceedings of the decision to dissolve the selected committee of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and form an ad hoc committee of 11 members.

The High Court bench consisting of Justice Rajik-Al-Jalil and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury gave this order on Monday. As a result, the ad hoc committee formed will be able to carry out the activities as usual, said the lawyer concerned.

The National Sports Council (NSC) formed an ad hoc committee of 11 members on April 7 after dissolving the board of directors of BCB led by Aminul Islam. The lawyer said about the validity of this decision. Seven Supreme Court lawyers including Golam Kibria filed the writ on April 30.

The writ prayer seeks a ruling as to why the BCB’s decision to dissolve the select committee and form an 11-member ad-hoc committee on April 7 should not be declared illegal. If the ruling is pending, the decision of April 7 regarding the formation of ad-hoc committee by disbanding the elected committee has been sought. Youth and Sports Secretary, Chairman of National Sports Council, Director (Planning and Development) and Chairman of Ad Hoc Committee of BCB have been made respondents in the writ.

An ad hoc committee of 11 members has been formed headed by Tamim Iqbal, the former captain of the national team. Two other former cricketers Minhajul Abedin and Athar Ali Khan are also in the committee. Other members include BNP MP Bobby Hajjaj’s wife Rashna Imam, Prime Minister’s Political Advisor Mirza Abbas’ son Mirza Yasir Abbas, Interior Minister Salahuddin Ahmad’s son Syed Ibrahim Ahmad and Finance Minister Amir Khusru Mahmud’s son Israfil Khusru.

The committee also includes Tanzil Chowdhury, Mirza Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam and Fahim Sinha, who were on the board of directors of BCB at various times. Among them, Tanzil Chowdhury is the chairman of Prime Bank, Mirza Salman Ispahani is the chairman of Ispahani Limited, Rafiqul Islam is the official of Indira Road Sports Club and Fahim Sinha is the director of Ekmi Laboratories. Fahim Sinha was also on the board of former BCB president Nazmul Hasan and later Farooq Ahmed and Aminul Islam.
