Woman killed in Netrokona after resisting sexual assault attempt

A woman was killed Sunday night in Purbadhala, Netrokona, allegedly by a 30-year-old man who attempted to assault her before strangling her with a scarf. The suspect, identified as Babul Mia, remains at large.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. local time. According to police and local residents, the victim was the wife of an expatriate. The woman had reportedly gone to Babul Mia’s residence to pay for firewood she had purchased from him. Upon her arrival, Mia allegedly attempted to assault her and subsequently tightened a scarf around her neck.
Babul Mia fled the scene after neighbors became aware of the incident. Responding to the scene, local police officers and residents transported the critically injured woman to the Netrokona 250-Bed General Hospital. Medical personnel pronounced her dead shortly after her arrival.
Sub-Inspector Harun-or-Rashid of the Shyamganj Police Investigation Center confirmed that the body has been transferred to the morgue at Netrokona Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination following an initial inquest.
Purbadhala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Al Mamun stated that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect. Attempts to reach Babul Mia by telephone were unsuccessful, as his mobile device remained powered off.
