PBI Solves Ashulia Murder Case Within 24 Hours After Suspect Confesses to Killing Friend Over Financial Dispute

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has solved the murder of a man found in a locked room in Ashulia, Dhaka, within 24 hours of taking over the investigation. The suspect, identified as Al-Amin, confessed to the killing in court on Tuesday, citing a dispute over money as the motive.
The investigation began on August 16 after the landlord, Taherunnesa, alerted police to a foul odor emanating from a room in a building near Raju City in the Basaid area of Ashulia. Authorities forced entry and discovered a decomposed body with its throat slit.
While the victim’s identity was initially unknown, PBI forensic teams used fingerprint technology to identify him as 44-year-old Md. Kamrul Khan, a native of Nayaborsat village in the Terokhada Upazila of Khulna. Following a murder case filed by the victim’s cousin, Jamil Sheikh, on August 17, the PBI took charge of the inquiry, led by Inspector Md. Jamal Uddin.
According to PBI officials, intelligence and technical analysis linked the victim to Al-Amin, a childhood acquaintance. PBI officers arrested Al-Amin in Terokhada on August 17 and recovered the victim’s mobile phone in his possession. Under interrogation, Al-Amin led investigators to a vegetable knife hidden inside the bathroom drain of the crime scene, which police confirmed as the murder weapon.
Investigators established that the two men had traveled from Khulna to Ashulia on August 8 in search of masonry work, renting the room together. On the night of August 14, an argument erupted when Al-Amin requested money from Kamrul. During the altercation, Al-Amin allegedly seized a knife from Kamrul and slashed his throat, causing him to bleed to death on the spot.
After the killing, Al-Amin locked the room from the outside and fled to Khulna. PBI noted that the investigation was initially hindered because the landlord had failed to collect identification documents or contact numbers from the tenants. However, the agency successfully leveraged digital forensics to track the suspect. The PBI is currently determining if any other individuals were involved in the crime.
