**Bangladesh Women’s Hockey Team Secures Historic Asian Games Berth**

Bangladesh’s women’s hockey team has achieved a landmark qualification for the Asian Games, marking their debut on the continental stage. The team secured their spot by defeating Hong Kong 2-1 in their final qualifying match, capping a successful campaign in the Asian Hockey Federation’s selection tournament held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The historic achievement propels Bangladesh into a new era for women’s hockey, as the nation has consistently participated in the men’s Asian Games hockey tournament since 1978 but never fielded a senior women’s team. The current squad was assembled by the Hockey Federation specifically for this qualifying event, drawing talent from the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP).

Bangladesh’s qualification journey began with a strong performance against Chinese Taipei, securing a 5-5 draw. They followed this with a significant 2-1 victory over Uzbekistan, placing them in a favorable position. Their final group match against Hong Kong solidified their advancement, ultimately finishing as runners-up in the group with seven points from three matches.

The Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, in September, will now feature the Bangladesh women’s national hockey team for the first time. This qualification represents a significant milestone for women’s sports in Bangladesh, highlighting the growing prowess and dedication of its athletes.
