Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has deployed approximately 10,000 personnel nationwide to ensure robust security during Sharadiya Durgotsav, the largest religious festival of the Bengali Hindu community.
Lieutenant Colonel Md Mahbub Morshed Rahman, Director of Operations at BGB Headquarters, disclosed the deployment details to the national news agency on Monday. According to the finalized operational blueprint, the paramilitary force will remain stationed across the country from October 16 to October 22.
The comprehensive security framework has been meticulously designed to guarantee a peaceful and celebratory atmosphere for the festivities. The core strategy encompasses routine patrols, heightened intelligence surveillance, and close coordination with local civil administration, law enforcement agencies, and puja celebration committees. Furthermore, authorities have prioritized the early identification of potential security risks, stringent monitoring to counter rumors and communal incitement, and rapid response mechanisms to address any untoward incidents promptly.
Under the deployment plan, BGB units will extend security assistance to 2,727 puja mandaps located within eight kilometers of international borders and in areas adjacent to battalion headquarters. To ensure swift patrols and emergency support in remote and inaccessible regions, the paramilitary force has established necessary temporary camps.
Regarding security arrangements in the capital, Lieutenant Colonel Morshed noted that the scope of BGB responsibilities in Dhaka will be determined based on directives from the government and requisitions from relevant authorities. The force stands fully prepared to conduct patrols, provide strategic security assistance at vital installations, and coordinate with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and local administration for rapid emergency responses as required. Emphasizing the cultural significance of the event, the BGB operations director stated that Durga Puja serves as a luminous reflection of the nation's long-standing tradition of communal harmony and mutual respect, assuring that the border security force remains comprehensively prepared to enable citizens to observe their religious festival safely, smoothly, and joyfully.
