Mahdi Amin, adviser and spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, met with United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdullah Ali Al Hmoudi on Tuesday morning at the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka. The meeting focused on expanding the labour market in the UAE, exploring new avenues for employment, and further invigorating bilateral economic ties between the two nations, according to a press release issued by Mahdi Amin's office.
During the discussions, both sides extensively reviewed the historical friendly relations and deep bonds of Muslim fraternity shared by Bangladesh and the UAE. Particular emphasis was placed on remembering the foundational phase of this bilateral relationship, which was firmly consolidated under the leadership of late President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
The talks also touched upon the recent high-level meeting between Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, which took place on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly session. Building upon that diplomatic engagement, the officials deliberated on advancing bilateral cooperation, enhancing people-to-people contact, and broadening the Bangladeshi labour market in the UAE.
A significant focus of the dialogue was directed toward creating employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers in the UAE, specifically as taxi and truck drivers, alongside underscoring the necessity of dispatching a larger contingent of skilled workers to the Gulf nation.
Furthermore, the meeting explored prospects for expanding bilateral trade, increasing UAE investments within Bangladesh, bolstering cooperation in the energy sector, and unlocking new potentials in infrastructure and industry. Both representatives emphasized the imperative of harnessing these mutual interests to make the economic partnership between Bangladesh and the UAE increasingly dynamic and fruitful.
