A local leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) allegedly assaulted a female assistant teacher inside a high school headmaster's room in Narayanganj's Rupganj upazila on Wednesday morning (October 23), amid a bitter dispute over the institution's managing committee. The incident, which took place at approximately 11:15 AM at Kalni Hironal High School, quickly drew widespread public condemnation after a video capturing the assault circulated extensively across social media platforms.
The accused individual has been identified as Abzal Mollah, president of ward BNP unit number 7 in Daudpur union, while the victim is Ektramunnesa Beauty, an assistant teacher at the same educational institution. According to school officials, the headmaster, Awlad Hossain, summoned the teacher to his office via a staff member. At the time of the summons, BNP leader Abzal Mollah, the school's managing committee president Zakir Hossain, three other committee members, and several teachers were present inside the room.
Mollah reportedly flew into a rage, accusing the assistant teacher of making derogatory remarks regarding the existing school managing committee a few days prior. Witnesses stated that the local political leader aggressively confronted the female educator, leading to a heated verbal altercation with the headmaster who attempted to manage the situation. Ektramunnesa Beauty alleged that the hostility stemmed from an earlier conflict in August 2024 concerning the formation of a primary school committee, which Mollah used as a pretext to humiliate and physically strike her. When other teachers present in the room attempted to intervene, Mollah allegedly subjected them to verbal abuse.
The circulating video footage corroborates the accounts, showing the accused striking the assistant teacher amid a heated exchange in the presence of faculty members and other individuals. Confronted about the allegations, Abzal Mollah admitted to the assault, conceding that he lost his temper and slapped the teacher after hearing about the alleged derogatory remarks, acknowledging that his actions were wrong.
In response to the incident, Rupganj Thana BNP President Mahfuzur Rahman Humayun confirmed that a show-cause notice has been issued to Abzal Mollah, warning that strict organizational action will be taken if a satisfactory explanation is not provided. Meanwhile, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md. Siddik Nur Alam denounced the assault within a headmaster's office as deeply unfortunate, assuring that a thorough investigation will be conducted. Rupganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) S M Abdullah Bin Shafique echoed similar sentiments, promising prompt administrative action based on the findings.
