New Police Academy and Relocated Central Jail Planned in Jungle Salimpur

The government has decided to establish a premier police academy modeled after the Sarda Police Academy in Jungle Salimpur of Chattogram, alongside relocating the Chattogram Central Jail to the same area. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced the decision on Thursday following a high-level meeting on the infrastructure development of Salimpur at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Secretariat.

Detailing the sweeping administrative and security overhaul, the Home Minister stated that land acquisition is currently underway to facilitate these major institutional shifts. In addition to the police academy and the central jail—for which 72 acres of land have already been acquired—space has been earmarked for permanent infrastructural installations of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the Special Response Battalion (SRB), and the Armed Police Battalion (APBn). The ongoing construction of a robust road network in the area, spearheaded by the Engineering Construction Battalion (ECB), was also reviewed during Thursday's meeting.

Addressing the long-standing challenges of the locality, Minister Salahuddin emphasized that all government lands across various mouzas in Jungle Salimpur, whether classified as hill terrain or khas land, will be brought under strict administrative governance. He noted that plans are underway to properly rehabilitate individuals who have illegally settled in the area over time, while existing educational and institutional facilities will be formally brought under regulatory management. The minister underscored that these decisive measures aim to transform Jungle Salimpur from a sanctuary of crime into a disciplined, orderly zone under the permanent surveillance of law enforcement agencies.

In a separate development during the day, the second meeting of the National Committee on Coordination, Management, and Law and Order concerning Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals was held at the Home Ministry. Briefing reporters on the outcomes of this session, the Home Minister announced that two new army camps will be established at Noyaphalia and Rangikhali in Cox's Bazar under the command of the 10th Infantry Division. He explained that these military outposts are specifically designed to curb rampant hill-area crimes, including frequent abductions and extortion for ransom.

Responding to a journalist's query regarding an interview given by the Inspector General of Police published in a national daily on Thursday, Minister Salahuddin remarked that upholding public trust remains a paramount priority for the administration. He asserted that while the government believes it has earned public confidence, the ultimate verdict rests with the citizens, acknowledging that sustaining and deepening this trust is a vital ongoing challenge for the state.
