Mymensingh Lawmaker Alleges Financial Irregularities In Fertilizer Dealer Appointments

Local Member of Parliament Lutfullahhel Mazed alleged financial corruption in fertilizer dealer appointments, while the district administration maintained that selections strictly followed policy guidelines

Local Member of Parliament (MP) Lutfullahel Majed has complained about financial transactions in the appointment of fertilizer dealers in Ishwarganj of Mymensingh. He wanted to know the reason for appointing the second ranked applicant excluding the first ranked applicant in the list sent from the upazila. The MP also claimed that the appointee tried to cheat him.

However, the Deputy Commissioner said that no changes have been made in the list sent from the upazila. And the upazila executive officer (UNO) said that the appointed person was second in the list sent from the upazila.

Lutfullahel Majed made these complaints about the appointment of fertilizer dealers in a post given on his personal Facebook account at around one o'clock today. He writes, "When such a license goes out in the Sarisha union, and when the people of the fascists - greedy people who run around with money of this nature get a license by cheating everyone, then the integrity of the upazila and the district is questioned."

This member of parliament also said, 'I know everything, I did not want to open my mouth against them. I know who takes what percentage money from where. ...Our people will fight lawsuits and you will give fertilizer license for money, it will not happen. ...What to purge the political leaders, first of all "Operation Cleanheart" should be conducted on the people of the administration.'

According to district administration sources, on August 31, the district commissioner's office published a circular for the appointment of 156 fertilizer dealers in 145 unions of 14 upazilas of the district. Among them, 12 dealers were supposed to be appointed in 11 unions and one municipality of Ishwarganj upazila. About 1 thousand 700 applications were submitted for this appointment in the district. Final appointment is given after the scrutiny.

This Friday morning, on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Fertilizer Management and Monitoring Branch published a notification for the appointment of Fertilizer Dealers in the Union, Municipalities and City Corporations of Mymensingh District. Zia Enterprise has been appointed as a dealer in Sarisha Union of Ishwarganj on the recommendation of the District Fertilizer and Seed Monitoring Committee and the approved list of the Central Management Committee for Fertilizers. The institution was named number one on the recommendation of the district committee.

However, Member of Parliament Lutfullahel Majed Prothom Alo sent a list sent from the upazila to the district on WhatsApp and claimed that there were two names for Sarisha Union. Taklima Akhter, owner of Geostruct Infrastructure Limited, was on the first place. The name of Zia Enterprise owner Ziaur Rahman Bhuiyan was in the second place.

Lutfullahel Majed said in a Facebook post, "The number one person on the list everywhere has been appointed as a dealer." But the one assigned to Sarisha Union was not number one on the list. Now the one who got the appointment, he went around with the money. ...There must be an interest in appointing the number two person on the list. If not, why would it be done? ...Despite the list coming from the upazila, the DC changed it, and even shook the UNO floor.'

When asked about the complaint, Ziaur Rahman, who was employed as a fertilizer dealer, claimed to be a former member of the Upazila Chhatra Dal. He told Prothom Alo on the phone, "After I applied, I asked for the support of the member of parliament by talking on the phone. But I never bribed anyone. I have not contacted anyone from the district administration.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Mymensingh Saifur Rahman said, 'He who was left out, must have had some deficiency. Find out about person number two on the list—what he lacked. ...nothing out of principle was done in recruitment. Anyone can be aggrieved.

Ishwarganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sanjida Rahman said, "I just told the Deputy Commissioner over the phone that the second person has complained to me that the first person has no income tax return. Income tax return was mandatory in case of recruitment. The matter was also informed to the Member of Parliament.
