Grieving mother celebrates daughter’s academic success at Meherpur GPA-5 reception

After studying from Dhaka University, the boy started teaching in an institution. His sudden death 9 months ago came as a big shock. Mother Nazma Akhter is carrying that grief. Meanwhile, the younger girl Mansi Haque Bandhan got GPA-5 in the SSC examination. To celebrate this success, she brought her daughter to Sikho-Prothom Alo GPA-5 reception today.

Nazma Akhtar said, 'It has been 9 months since my son died in Dhaka. I came here today with my little girl Bandhan. She got GPA-5 from Meherpur Government Girls High School. I have come to celebrate my daughter's success with the grief of losing my son.

The GPA-5 achievement reception is organized by Prothom Alo and sponsored by Sikho, a digital platform for education. This felicitation is being given in 64 districts to the students who obtained GPA-5 in SSC and equivalent examinations in 2026 across the country with the slogan 'Swapn Dekho Jeevan Garo'.

The event is powered by Bikash and is supported by Concord Group, Fresh, Savoy Ice Cream, Conca-Gree, Mutual Trust Bank Plc, Quality Group, Presidency University, Zinc B, Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology, UCSI University Bangladesh Branch Campus, Amber IT Limited, ATN Bangla and Prothom Alo Bandhu Sabha.

The Meherpur phase of the reception was organized at the District Arts Academy Auditorium. Kriti students started arriving at the venue from nine in the morning. Some come with their parents, some with their classmates. They were excited to see their friends after a long time. Some were taking photos and selfies in groups.

The main program started with the performance of the national anthem at 10 am. Prothom Alo Meherpur representative Abu Saeed gave a welcome speech at the event organized by District Friendship Council.

Meherpur Government Women's College Vice Principal Abdullah Al Amin, former professor Nurul Ahmed and Prothom Alo Rajshahi's own reporter Abul Kalam Muhammad Azad spoke on the occasion. They urged the students to develop themselves as honest, responsible and conscientious people in every field of life along with good results.

Speakers also said that real education teaches people to think, helps them understand the difference between good and bad and makes them responsible towards society. Therefore, besides studying textbooks, students should be focused on reading other books, developing creativity and human qualities.

Jannatul Naima Donna and Ramisha Tabassum of Meherpur Government Girls' School gave a speech on behalf of the meritorious students. Amjad Hossain, who came with his daughter Samia Afrin, expressed his feelings as a guardian. Samia is a student of Genius Laboratory School and College.

At the end of the discussion, the guests made the meritorious students take an oath to say 'no' to drugs, lies and rote learning.

In between the discussions, a cultural program was performed with the participation of Meherpur Bandhu Sabha and local artists. Apart from this, prizes were given to the winners of the quiz competition.
