Summary Trial Courts Dispose 2,273 Criminal Cases in February: DMP
Special Metropolitan Magistrate summary courts under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) disposed of 2,273 criminal cases and 1,778 traffic cases in February 2026.
According to Law Officer (District Judge) Mohammad Ataul Haque, among 3,706 people arrested during the period, 2,113 were sentenced to various terms through summary trial proceedings.
He said that in February, different divisions of DMP—Motijheel, Tejgaon, Wari, Gulshan, Mirpur, Ramna, Lalbagh and Uttara—arrested a total of 3,706 individuals. The Special Metropolitan Magistrate summary courts disposed of 2,273 criminal cases against them. The courts also imposed fines amounting to Tk 232,950 and sentenced 2,113 individuals to various terms of punishment.
Meanwhile, the traffic divisions of DMP—Motijheel, Tejgaon, Wari, Gulshan, Mirpur, Ramna, Lalbagh and Uttara—filed 1,833 cases in February. Of these, 1,778 traffic cases, including 359 cases from the current month, were disposed of by the Special Metropolitan Magistrate courts. In these cases, fines totaling Tk 644,400 were imposed.
It is worth mentioning that under the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, minor offences and crimes that carry relatively lighter punishments can be tried through summary procedures in Special Metropolitan Magistrate courts.
