Gulistan and Fulbaria Bus Terminals to Relocate to Keraniganj Within Three Months

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mainul Hasan has announced that bus terminals currently operating in Gulistan and Fulbaria will be relocated to Chunutia in Keraniganj within a maximum period of three months to ease traffic congestion in the capital. The announcement was made on Saturday during an inspection of the traffic management improvement activities at the Mohakhali terminal in Dhaka.

Elaborating on the relocation plan, the police commissioner stated that the government has already authorized the use of a 10-acre site at the Jhilmil project in Chunutia, where preliminary work for a depot has commenced. Furthermore, authorities plan to secure approximately 75 additional acres of land through the Capital Development Authority to establish a permanent terminal and depot facility.

The comprehensive transport overhaul aims to shift all public transport services and trucks originating from 19 southwestern districts, alongside trucks from the Badamtali wholesale market, to the new location. The site is envisioned to function as a multimodal transport hub, accommodating buses and freight transport from the southern region in a phased manner. The initial 10-acre site will serve as a temporary terminal for Gulistan and Fulbaria buses until the permanent infrastructure is fully completed.

Also present during the inspection, Member of Parliament for the Pabna-5 constituency, Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, voiced strong support for the initiative, noting that citizens are deeply frustrated by intolerable traffic congestion and widespread disorder within the road transport sector. He emphasized that the current situation is unsustainable and requires immediate reform, adding that similar infrastructural and managerial changes will soon be implemented across major terminals including Mohakhali, Gulistan, Sayedabad, and Gabtoli.

The inspection tour was attended by high-ranking officials, including Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner for Traffic Md. Anisur Rahman, alongside various transport owners and labor union leaders.
