Rotary International marks World Polio Day with rally in Dhaka

Rotary International marked World Polio Day with a vibrant awareness rally along the Hatirjheel Lake Road in Dhaka, bringing together participants to underscore the global imperative of eradicating the crippling disease.

The procession featured an array of placards, festive banners, and critical public health messages aimed at highlighting ongoing immunization efforts. Rotarians and citizens from diverse walks of life marched in solidarity, reiterating their collective commitment to securing a polio-free world, according to a press release issued by the organization.

The rally was led by Ishtiaq Zaman, Country Coordinator for Rotary International in Bangladesh and former Rotary Governor, alongside Deputy Country Coordinator and former Rotary Governor A K M Shamsul Huda.

Speakers and leaders at the event emphasized the critical need to boost public awareness, encourage parents to vaccinate their children, and foster broader community engagement to sustain the global eradication drive.

For decades, Rotary International has spearheaded international campaigns to rid the world of polio, working in close collaboration with global health organizations and local communities to protect vulnerable children from the preventable disease through targeted vaccination initiatives.
