A 55-year-old schoolteacher was beaten to death on Sunday afternoon (October 20) in Parbatipur Upazila of Dinajpur district while attempting to mediate a domestic dispute at his late friend's residence. The victim, Manoranjan Roy, served as an assistant teacher at Chok Sukdebpur Government Primary School and hailed from Sonapukur Mazhipara village in the neighboring Chirirbandar Upazila. Law enforcement authorities have confirmed the apprehension of one suspect, identified as 32-year-old Asaduzzaman, in connection with the homicide.
The tragic incident unfolded at approximately 2:30 PM in Naya Mollapara village, located within the Belaichandi Union of Parbatipur Upazila. According to police reports and local accounts, tensions had escalated at the homestead of the late Azizul Master over wage disputes involving carpenter Fortaj Hossain, 53, and property boundaries concerning a neighboring pathway contested by Asaduzzaman and the homeowner's family. Al Roman, 25, the son of the late Azizul and an employee at a private firm, explained that Manoranjan Roy had acted as a lifelong confidant and guardian to him and his siblings following their father's passing roughly 13 years prior.
Investigations reveal that the confrontation began when Fortaj, Asaduzzaman, and several others arrived at Al Roman's residence on Sunday afternoon, precipitating a heated argument with Azizul Master's widow. As Manoranjan Roy stepped in to broker a peaceful resolution between the conflicting parties, the visiting group turned their aggression toward him. Perpetrators reportedly assaulted the educator with drumstick tree branches and wooden batons, inflicting severe blunt force trauma across his body that caused him to collapse into an adjacent paddy field, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Al Roman detailed that friction had mounted in the days leading up to the murder, beginning with a dispute over the unauthorized felling and milling of eucalyptus trees from their property by Fortaj, followed by disagreements over construction wages and labor distribution. Following the assault, an emergency distress call was placed to the national helpline 999, prompting law enforcement units to rush to the scene and recover the victim's body.
Dinajpur Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Anwar Hossain stated that preliminary findings indicate the educator had traveled from Chirirbandar specifically to resolve a familial conflict on behalf of his deceased friend. Police authorities are actively investigating the precise medical cause of death while conducting ongoing operations to apprehend remaining suspects linked to the attack.
