Tailor shot and attackers flee after locals chase them in Noakhali

Rival gangs clash over territorial dominance in Noakhali leaving a tailor injured

A twenty-four-year-old tailor named Kamrul Hasan sustained gunshot wounds during a factional clash in Noakhali's Begumganj Upazila on Saturday afternoon (Sept 29). The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 PM in front of the Okkas Patwari House in Boro Newazpur village under the upazila's Alaiyapur Union, leaving the victim hospitalized with injuries to his right chest and right arm.

According to local residents and law enforcement officials, the territory has long been plagued by turf wars between two rival criminal factions locally identified as the Rubel Group and the Harun Group. Investigators revealed that several members of the Rubel Group, who had recently been jailed in connection with various criminal offenses, secured bail and returned to the area days prior to the shooting. Witnesses reported that a contingent of Rubel Group members arrived on motorcycles on Saturday afternoon and deliberately targeted Kamrul, who is known in the locality as an adherent of the opposing Harun Group.

Upon hearing the gunfire, residents rushed to the scene, prompting the armed assailants to flee. During their escape, the perpetrators abandoned one of their motorcycles, which was subsequently seized by responding police officers and taken to the police station. Local bystanders rescued the wounded tailor and rushed him to the Noakhali 250-Bed General Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Begumganj Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mahbubul Kabir confirmed the details of the incident, noting that tension between the Rubel and Harun factions had escalated significantly in recent days, including a physical altercation between the two groups on Friday (Sept 28). The police official stated that law enforcement is currently preparing to take strict legal action based on formal complaints regarding Saturday afternoon's armed assault.
