A youth political leader was hacked to death in Jashore’s Bagharpara upazila on Monday in a daylight attack that local authorities suspect was rooted in longstanding personal animosity. The victim, 38-year-old Rubel Hossain, served as the joint general secretary of the Bandabila Union Jubo Dal and worked professionally as a covered van driver.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. in front of the Khajura police camp. According to local residents and police reports, Hossain had arrived in Khajura earlier that morning after completing a delivery run. After parking his vehicle at a nearby filling station along the Jashore-Magura regional highway, he was walking back toward the area when he was intercepted by a group of three to four men, allegedly led by a 25-year-old individual identified as Rabby, who is the brother of the victim’s brother-in-law.

Witnesses reported that a heated altercation broke out between Hossain and the group before the situation turned violent. Rabby allegedly produced a knife and inflicted multiple stab wounds across the victim’s body before fleeing the scene. Bystanders rushed the critically injured man to the Jashore 250-bed General Hospital, where attending physicians declared him dead at noon.

Bagharpara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahjalal Alam stated that the victim’s body has been transferred to the hospital morgue for an autopsy. While a formal investigation into the precise motive is underway, authorities are treating the killing as a targeted attack. Police teams have been deployed to track down the suspects, who remain at large, and official legal proceedings regarding the homicide are currently in progress.
