There are some private hospitals including 250-bed Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, Union Hospital, General Hospital, Al Fawad Khatib Hospital next to the stadium. The road is crowded with vehicles carrying patients till late night. Atiq Ullah was caught while doing extortion there.

According to the police, the police recovered a police uniform, a handcuff and two name badges from Atiq Ullah. Both badges have ‘Saiful Islam Mizan’ and ‘Md. The name ‘Mizan’ is written.

According to the police, Mamun’s house is in East Diglia village of Ward No. 7 of Rajapalang Union of Ukhia Upazila of Cox’s Bazar. It is alleged that for a long time, he was pretending to be a law enforcement officer to influence the area and extort money from people.

Confirming the truth of the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Sheikh Mohammad Ali told Prothom Alo that the arrested Mamun used to collect extortion from people while wearing police uniform. A case has been registered against him on the charge of extortion by fraud. He was sent to jail by Cox’s Bazar court.

OC Sheikh Mohammad Ali said that how Mamun used to collect police clothes and equipment, whether anyone else was involved with him or not, the issues are being investigated.
