US-Bangla Airlines proposes 98,000 taka Hajj airfare for 2027 season

US-Bangla Airlines has submitted a formal proposal to the Ministry of Religious Affairs to transport Hajj pilgrims at a rate of 98,000 taka per person starting in 2027. The airline stated that the move is intended to ensure that low-income citizens can perform the Hajj pilgrimage at a significantly reduced cost while adhering to all established flight regulations.

According to Kamrul Islam, general manager of public relations at US-Bangla Airlines, the initiative is driven by social responsibility rather than profit. He emphasized that a reduction in airfare is a primary factor in lowering the overall cost of the pilgrimage, providing much-needed relief to prospective travelers.

The proposal comes as the aviation sector prepares for future Hajj seasons. For comparison, the airfare for the 2026 Hajj season was set at 154,830 taka per person. Currently, Biman Bangladesh Airlines operates alongside Saudi Arabia’s national carrier, Saudia, and private airline Flynas to manage the annual transport of pilgrims from Bangladesh.

Farid Ahmed Majumder, secretary general of the Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB), confirmed that the industry remains focused on minimizing travel expenses for pilgrims. He noted that the association will review the US-Bangla Airlines proposal during upcoming consultative meetings to assess its feasibility and impact on the broader Hajj management framework.
