Two associates of Tariq Siddique are remanded for 3 days

The court remanded two associates of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s military advisor Major General (retd) Tariq Ahmed Siddique to three-day remand in a case filed under the anti-terror law at Ramna police station in the capital. The two remanded accused are Md. Mahidul Islam (42) and Md. Chan Mia (46).

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate today Friday. Ripon Hossain gave this order.

The investigating officer of the case is Deputy Inspector (SI) of Ramana police station. Amjad Hossain Talukder produced the accused in the court and applied for seven days remand. A hearing was held in favor of remand from the state side. On the other hand, the accused requested cancellation of remand and bail. After the hearing, the court granted remand for three days each.

State counsel Shamsuddoha Sumon and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Prosecution Division SI Shah Alam confirmed the matter.

In this case, the accused were remanded for a total of seven days from May 1. Earlier, they were remanded for a total of 12 days and interrogated in a murder case of Newmarket police station.

The remand application said that the accused were involved in anti-national conspiracy to accelerate the activities of the banned organization and destabilize the interim government due to their closeness to Tariq Ahmed Siddique. The accused need to be interrogated again on remand to reveal their role in suppressing the anti-discrimination student movement and those behind them as suppliers of arms and money.

According to the case documents, on the afternoon of May 12, 2025, the police raided the street in front of Rupayan Tower in the capital’s Banglamotor area during an anti-government rally and the activities of banned organizations. Seven people including the president of a college branch of Madaripur were arrested in that incident.

In this incident, SI Awlad Hossain of Ramna Model Police Station filed the case against 40-50 unknown people including 11 names as the plaintiff under the Anti-Terrorism Act. At one stage of the investigation, the involvement of these two accused was found and their arrest was shown.
