38 footover bridges are being constructed to make the communication system of the city more safe, orderly and people-friendly, said Chittagong City Corporation (Chasik) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain.

The mayor gave this information while laying the foundation stone of the footover bridge construction work in New Mansurabad area of ​​North Kattali Ward number 10 of the city on Sunday.

At this time, there are plans to construct new footover bridges at 7-8 more important places in the future, said the mayor.

Mayor Dr. in the opening speech. Shahadat Hossain said that the development of the city does not mean only the construction of infrastructure; Rather, to secure the life and movement of citizens. Chasik aims to build a safer city for both pedestrians and vehicles through planned footover bridges and improved road connectivity.

He also said that these footover bridges are being planned across the city under various road and important infrastructural development projects including airport road expansion of Chittagong City Corporation. Under the project, 4 footover bridges have already been completed, 15 are in progress and tender process for 17 is currently underway. By implementing these bridges, safe passage of pedestrians on busy roads will be ensured and road accidents will be significantly reduced.

The inaugurated New Mansurabad Footover Bridge is being constructed at a cost of Tk 1 crore 56 lakh 36 thousand 264. The bridge is 31.5 meters (103.3 ft) long and 3 meters (10 ft) wide. The bridge will have a total of two staircases, one on each side.

The project is being implemented with government funding by Chasik and the construction work is being done by Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited, Bangladesh Navy, Sonakanda, Bandar, Narayanganj.

Chasic Chief Engineer Anisur Rahman, Supervising Engineers (Pur) Jasim Uddin and Abu Sadat Taiyab, Executive Engineers Ashiqul Islam and Tasmia Tahsin and others were present in the opening ceremony.
