On April 12, Prothom Alo published a report titled ‘6 children’s hospital buildings are lying at a cost of 320 crores’. It is said in that report that even though the construction work of these six hospitals has been completed, due to lack of manpower, furniture, medical equipment and money allocation, no institution of health department other than Rangpur is showing interest in taking over the building. The disused infrastructure is collapsing, and thefts are taking place in several buildings.

The Prime Minister’s Press Wing informed that the report published in Prothom Alo has been seen by the Honorable Prime Minister Tariq Rahman.

It was informed in the meeting that the Kushtia Medical College Hospital is partially operational. In this case, the Prime Minister ordered the full operation of this 500-bed hospital. Besides, he directed the concerned persons to take steps to speedily open other hospitals including Super Specialized Hospital under Bangladesh Medical University in Shahbagh of the capital.

Apart from this, instructions were given in the meeting to speed up the work of Bangladesh-China Friendship Hospital with 1000 beds in Nilphamari by involving the Chinese Embassy through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This hospital will be built in Nilphamari Sadar Upazila.
