The High Court did not respond to the petition seeking a ban on the BCB elections, there is no ban on the elections for the time being

The High Court did not respond to the plea seeking an interim injunction in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections. The court has decided not to interfere in the election in view of the injunction application.

The High Court bench consisting of Justice Rajik-al-Jalil and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury held a hearing on that application on Sunday.

According to the information of the concerned lawyers, lawyer Mosharraf Hossain filed a writ in the High Court this year regarding the provisions of the constitution of BCB regarding the election of 12 directors from the clubs of Dhaka city. The court gave a ruling on the preliminary hearing of the writ on March 31. The writ petitioner filed a supplementary application seeking a ban on the BCB election while the rule was pending.

Attorney General for the state in the court. Ruhul Quddus Kajol and BCB’s lawyer Mahin M Rahman were present at the hearing. Senior lawyer Mohammad Mohsen Rashid and lawyer Naqib Saiful Islam were present on behalf of the petitioner.

BCB’s lawyer Mahin M. Rahman said that the High Court had given a ruling in the context of the writ regarding the constitution of BCB. He told Prothom Alo that the writ petitioner made a supplementary application last week seeking a ban on the BCB election while the rule was under trial. In view of the application for ban on the hearing, the High Court decided not to interfere in the BCB elections. As a result, there is no obstacle in the BCB election for now.

Earlier, the schedule of BCB Board of Directors Election 2026 was announced in a circular on Saturday. The notification said that the Board of Directors elections will be held on June 7 and the results of the elections will be announced on the same day.

The draft voter list is scheduled to be published on May 17 at 4 pm. The next day, on May 18, the objections to the list will be received and the hearing on the objections will be held on May 19. After the hearing, the final voter list will be published at 5 pm that day.

According to the schedule, distribution of nomination papers will continue on May 20 and 21 from 10 am to 4 pm. The time for submission of nomination papers is 21st and 22nd May from 11 am to 5 pm. The next day, May 23, nomination papers will be selected and the list will be published. Acceptance and hearing of appeal on 24 May and withdrawal of nomination papers and publication of final candidate list the next day on 25 May. Postal/e-ballot should also be applied for on the same day.
