The hearing of Bulbul-Farooq’s writ on the decision to form an ad hoc committee of BCB under the leadership of Tamim is on May 21
The High Court has fixed May 21 for the hearing of the writ seeking suspension of the decision to dissolve the selected committee of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and form an 11-member ad hoc committee headed by cricketer Tamim Iqbal.
When the issue of the writ was raised today on Monday, the High Court bench comprising of Justice Fatema Najib and Justice AFM Saiful Karim fixed this date of hearing.

Earlier, the National Sports Council (NSC) formed an ad-hoc committee of 11 members on April 7 after dissolving the board of directors of BCB led by Aminul Islam Bulbul. Aminul Islam, Farooq Ahmed and 10 others filed the writ regarding the validity of this decision. In the writ, Aminul Islam, the then president of BCB, Farooq Ahmed, vice president and 10 others mentioned themselves as directors.
Md. The writ titled Aminul Islam (Aminul Imlam Bulbul) and others vs. Bangladesh and others’ is numbered 417 in the court’s agenda today.

When the court proceedings started, the writ petitioner’s lawyer Mokarramuch Saklan raised the matter of the writ in the morning. Later, he told Prothom Alo, “If the issue of writ is raised, the court has fixed the time for hearing at 2.30 pm on May 21.”
The 10 applicants mentioned in the writ are Asif Akbar, Khan Abdur Razzak, M. Nazmul Islam, Nazmul Abedin, Md. Hasanuzzaman, Rahat Shams, Abul Bashar, Adnan Rahman, Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury and Khaled Masood Pilot.
The writ petition seeks a ruling as to why the BCB’s decision to dissolve the select committee and form an 11-member ad-hoc committee on April 7 and all the proceedings taken accordingly should not be declared extrajudicial.
The writ sought to suspend the decision to form an 11-member ad hoc committee under the leadership of Tamim Iqbal while the ruling is pending. Besides, the writ also contains a prayer to restrain the members of the ad hoc committee from taking decisions and conducting the proceedings.
In the writ, 10 people including Youth and Sports Secretary, National Sports Council, Executive Director of Sports Council, President of BCB Ad Hoc Committee, Secretary of BCB, Chief Election Commissioner of BCB, Executive Director of National Sports Council (Joint Secretary), Chief Executive Officer of International Cricket Council (ICC) have been named.
The 11-member ad hoc committee headed by Tamim Iqbal has two other former cricketers Minhajul Abedin and Athar Ali Khan. Other members include BNP MP Bobby Hajjaj’s wife Rashna Imam, Prime Minister’s Political Advisor Mirza Abbas’ son Mirza Yasir Abbas, Interior Minister Salahuddin Ahmad’s son Syed Ibrahim Ahmad, Finance Minister Amir Khusru Mahmud’s son Israfil Khusru.
The committee also includes Tanzil Chowdhury, Mirza Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam and Fahim Sinha, who were on the board of directors of BCB at various times. Among them, Tanzil Chowdhury is the chairman of Prime Bank, Mirza Salman Ispahani is the chairman of Ispahani Limited.
On April 30, seven advocates of the Supreme Court filed a writ seeking the validity of the decision to set up the same ad hoc committee. A double bench of the High Court after hearing dismissed the writ outright on May 11.
