Teenager confesses to rape and murder of child in Rangpur

An 18-year-old man has confessed to the rape and murder of a young child in Taraganj, Rangpur, following his arrest by local police. The suspect, Mujahid Islam, provided a formal statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure before a magistrate on Tuesday after being taken into custody the previous night.
The investigation began last Saturday when authorities discovered the victim’s body in a jute field adjacent to an irrigation canal. Following the discovery, the victim’s father filed a formal complaint at the Taraganj Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

According to Rangpur Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mozammel Haque, the incident unfolded last Friday after the child left home following a domestic reprimand. As the girl walked near the field, Islam lured her into the jute crop under the guise of showing her a video on his mobile device. Once inside, he raped the child and subsequently strangled her to death when she began to scream for help.
Police recovered evidence from the scene and transferred the body to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. A joint operation led by the district police and detective branch successfully apprehended Islam in the Bhimpur Koranipara area on Monday evening. Authorities confirmed that the suspect admitted to the crime during preliminary interrogations before repeating his account before the court on Tuesday.
