Sanariz Tutorial Center Marks 15th Anniversary with Award Ceremony for 104 Students in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES — The Sanariz Tutorial Center, a prominent educational institution founded by Abu Hanif Jewel, celebrated its 15th anniversary with a grand award ceremony in Los Angeles. The five-hour event honored the academic and extracurricular achievements of 104 students from diverse backgrounds, highlighting the center’s long-standing commitment to fostering academic excellence and community integration.
The gala featured a wide array of accolades, ranging from leadership and academic merit to significant personal improvement. Notable honorees included Taj Khan, who received the Most Inspiring/Influential Student Award, and Mehran Alam, who was honored with the Leader Award. Other recipients included Griselda Vasquez with the Lifetime Achievement Award, Tanvir with the Ivy/Elite Schools Admits Award, and Sheikh Jibran with the Best Memory Award. Dr. Sulin Chowdhury was named Top Scholar, while Sakiba, Ania, and Aiman were recognized for their dedication in their respective categories of academic growth and mastery.
Beyond current students, the event served as a platform to celebrate the academic journeys of alumni who have successfully transitioned into prestigious universities, including Harvard, Columbia, and UCLA. Organizers emphasized that these success stories are intended to inspire current students, from elementary grades through high school, to aspire toward top-tier higher education.
Founded in 2011 in the Little Bangladesh area of Los Angeles with the support of the late Selim Chowdhury, the institution was originally known as Cefalon Tutorial Center before being renamed Sanariz Tutorial Center in 2013. Over the past 15 years, the center has served approximately 5,000 students. While roughly 60 percent are of Bangladeshi descent, the center maintains a multicultural student body, including individuals from Korean, Chinese, Filipino, Indian, Pakistani, Ethiopian, Mongolian, and Latino communities.
The ceremony also honored local community figures, with Khan Mohammad Ali, founder of the “Anondo Mela” cultural festival, receiving the Community Leadership Honor Award for his contributions to the Bangladeshi diaspora. Additionally, social worker Nasir Khan introduced the “Nasir Khan Scholarship,” an initiative designed to provide financial support and further educational opportunities for high-achieving students.
Throughout the evening, students showcased their artistic talents through a series of music and dance performances, culminating in a tribute to Michael Jackson. The event concluded with a group photo session involving students, faculty, and guests, marking a milestone for an institution that has become a vital hub for both the local Bangladeshi community and the broader student population in Los Angeles.
