Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has called on the Indian Border Guard Force (BSF) to stop firing and forcefully ‘push in’ Bangladeshi citizens along the Bangladesh-India border. This call was made in a courtesy meeting held at the level of BGB’s Rangpur sector and BSF’s Gopalpur sector commanders.
The meeting was held at Kakowabari border of Jongra union in Patgram of Lalmonirhat yesterday at 11:30 am. Colonel Robayet Hasan, Rangpur Sector Commander, led the meeting for BGB in a meeting that lasted for about two hours. On behalf of BSF, Gopalpur sector commander of West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district, Sankasha Prasad, presided over the meeting.
According to the source of the meeting, BGB said in the meeting that firing and killing people at the border and the incident of ‘push in’ is not acceptable in any way. The BGB called on the BSF to solve the push-in incident through appropriate legal process, not to build any kind of structure or infrastructure within 150 yards of the border, to prevent illegal crossing of the border, to exchange information to suppress inter-state crimes including smuggling.
BGB Rangpur Sector Commander Robayet Hasan confirmed the meeting. He told Prothom Alo on the phone on Thursday afternoon that there was a detailed discussion in the courtesy meeting held at the sector commander level of BGB and BSF. It has been decided to inform the respective higher authorities of the two countries about this.
