Protesters vandalize Phulchhari UNO office over alleged inclusion of Awami League activists in family card recruitment list

Protesters in Gaibandha’s Fulchhari Upazila stormed the local administration office on Tuesday, vandalizing furniture and demonstrating against the publication of a recruitment list for family card data collectors and supervisors.
The unrest began shortly after the Upazila administration published the list on Tuesday morning. By 1 p.m., a group consisting of members from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, and frustrated job applicants gathered at the office of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO).
Protesters alleged that the recruitment process was compromised by the inclusion of members associated with the Awami League, a party currently facing restricted political activities. Demonstrators claimed that individuals affiliated with the Awami League were unfairly appointed to the roles and demanded the immediate cancellation of the list.
Witnesses reported that during the protest, individuals damaged chairs and shattered windows in an office room located on the second floor of the building. The situation remained volatile until senior BNP leaders arrived at the scene around 1:30 p.m. to disperse the crowd and restore order.
Fulchhari Upazila Chhatra Dal Convener Joynal Mia stated that the protest was a spontaneous reaction from party members and job seekers who felt excluded due to the favoritism shown toward Awami League affiliates. He reiterated the demand for the list to be scrapped entirely.
Efforts to reach Fulchhari UNO Mostafizur Rahman for comment were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to multiple calls made to his mobile phone.
