Primary school teacher dies in Rangamati electrocution accident

A primary school teacher died from electrocution in the Naniarchar upazila of Rangamati on Saturday morning while attempting to pick fruit on her way to work.

Fifty-year-old Shatabdi Chakma, an assistant teacher at Ramharipara Government Primary School, was waiting for transportation in the Samajkalyan area of Ghilachhari Union around 8:30 a.m. when the incident occurred. According to local education officials, Chakma attempted to harvest fruit from a nearby tree using a bamboo pole. The pole inadvertently made contact with a live overhead power line, delivering a fatal electric shock.

Bystanders rushed Chakma to Rangamati General Hospital, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Dr. Shawkat Akbar Khan, the hospital’s resident medical officer, confirmed that the teacher had already succumbed to her injuries by the time she reached the medical facility.

Chakma, the daughter of the late Rabichandra Chakma, was a resident of the Sukhinilganj area in Rangamati municipality. Krishna Lal Debnath, the Naniarchar upazila primary education officer, noted that the tragic accident took place as she was commuting from her home to the school.
